it is well with my soul
” Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance.” (Romans 5:3).
The hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” was written in 1873 by Horatio Spafford after a series of tragic events happened in his life. Two years prior, his only son died at the age of 4. Then quickly following, his business as a successful lawyer was ruined...
(change)
Do you think it’s possible that I left for the summer as one girl, and came back as another? Could I have changed that much in three months? Maybe, but probably not. I changed. There’s no doubt about that. But is it enough of a change to hold on to? I guess what I’m talking in circles about is the fact that three months changed my heart, whether it’s obvious to me or anyone...
it's sunday
Summertime Sundays are my jam. But, being back in school now, Sundays can bring a lot of pressure and a gigantic list of to-do’s (aka homework). At the moment Katherine and I are sitting on our loverly beds thinking of ways to make our homework fun and light. So far, all we’ve come up with is snacks, lots of snacks. I have 3-5 pictorials due on Thursday for photojournalism, so let me...
with reverence, part 3
It’s been a long day, but not for any particular reason. I spent most of today deep cleaning my room, and reorganizing my bookshelf to make space for new books and school supplies. A weekend’s list of to-do’s already checked off in one day, I amaze myself sometimes.
Life has been a little different since I’ve been back at school—much noisier. And I’ll admit, I...

found'ya college girl!
Today, Mom took me on a tour of her old stomping grounds—Lawrence, home of the The University of Kansas. She drove me up “The Hill” where she would walk to campus each day carrying a large art portfolio (probably the size of tiny her). We saw her freshman dorm (much better looking than mine) and all of downtown Lawrence. But probably my favorite part of the whole day, was...
goodbye KC mag
Tomorrow’s the last day of my internship. I’ll miss waking up in the morning and piecing together trendy outfits from my average closet. I’ll miss the big glass doors, and my shiny Apple desktop. I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time, and I’m incredibly thankful for the entire opportunity. It will be one that I’ll never forget. Maybe it will be the...
between the dreaming and the coming true
“The journey between the dreaming and the coming true is a journey made on holy ground. It is a journey made through silence and longing where, if we will listen, we can hear the whisper of the Dreamer echoing deep within us, calling us to become what the dreamer sees when our name was first whispered: saints who believe in and pay attention for and recognize the Voice; saints who live our...
with reverence, part 2
Desiring a sense of reverence as much as the night before, I spent my 25-minute commute this morning searching for inner stillness. But still feeling confined to a sound-proof box, I parked my car and made my way to Suite 400 for the day. Only an hour after arriving to the office, I received a text message from my friend Andrea with a link to our friend Libby’s blog.
Some background: I met...
with reverence
Only a few days remain of my time in KC before this chapter closes for the summer. Next week is filled with visitors and a long road trip back to Georgia, so my hope is that this week will be some kind of closure—tying the loose ends, if you will.
I planned to take each night individually and go to the Lord in prayer about something I had learned this summer, or something I had overcome....

‘Shark Week’ is blowing my mind.
journal girl
Lazy Sundays call for a mixture of reading and writing, and no regards to a clock ticking towards Monday. I’ve found my favorite thing to do on such days, is to skim through old journal entries. It always amazes me that the vibrant, confused, anxious, fearless young girl I find on each page, shares the same patchwork life with little ole’ me.
Each day is its own story, some tragedy...
the intern look
This is by far my first fashion blog, and maybe my last. I’m not sure if I’m really fashionable enough to be handing out any advice, but I would like to think I learned a few things this summer from working at a high-fashion magazine. Feeling a little (a lot) intimated by the other women’s clothing at KC Mag, I had to tell myself that I’m not yet an editor or the creative...
