but first...
I think I’ll sit on the bathroom counter and rinse a day’s work off of my feet, while enjoying a lovely glass of white wine—a taste I have yet to acquire, but my mom looks so pretty when she drinks it, so I try.

i have everything to smile about
Crazy day!  The end of the month is nearing, which is more of a crisis in the world of journalism than no money in the bank account. It means deadlines!   But in the midst of running late to work and constantly being put on hold during the umpteenth phone interview today, I still have everything to smile about. I found an awesome new 90’s jam station on my 25-minute commute to work. I...

this is for you, all of you
Listen up, and listen good! We have something pretty special going on in case you haven’t noticed, and I’d like to bring your attention to the matter. All of you better find your way back to Athens once this summer thing is a done deal. You hear me? We’ve had some pretty fun and crazy times on that street they call Springdale. And, in the words of our dear friend Bart,...

letter to juliet
I must preface this to tell you that the following is silly and foolish (and an emotional out-pour after seeing the movie). But, I really think my heart might of meant at least some of it. Kristen, maybe you could write this down and pin it to Juliet’s wall before you leave Italy?—just a thought. June 18th, 2010: Juliet, My mind is young, but my heart is younger. It tends to lead...

come visit me!
It’s taken me some time getting used to, but I’ve finally acquired a daily routine in KC, a list of my favorite places, and a handful of things I’m still dying to try! So come visit me and I promise we’ll make the most of a few days in grand ole’ Kansas City!   The Classic Cup has become my favorite sidewalk cafe. Great for any meal, but I prefer dinner on a...

Wrestling tonight with what we invest our lives in. We have one shot to shine bright and who will I shine for? Me that will fade, Me that will die, Me that will be forgotten, Me that will not last. Or Him. Jesus who is eternal, Jesus who never dies, Jesus who never fades, Jesus whose fame…

silence
June 20th, 2010: Sometimes I am afraid to quiet my mind. I am afraid that if my thoughts remain mute that maybe the silence will be unbearable. And most of all, I am afraid if I quite myself that He might remain silent. As I drove to my neighborhood park last night for an evening run, I began to feel a tug on my heart. I turned down the radio. Left the ipod in the car. Walked slowly around the...

rain, rain go away
Mom and I planned to do some window shopping in Brookside before we attended an evening of Shakespeare in the Park. But, it’s 12:30 in the afternoon and the sky is pitch black—Midwest weather.

So, I’m off for a quick bite then jetting downtown to meet the Executive Director of the Kansas City Ballet. We’re meeting at the construction site for the new KCB headquarters, a beautifully renovated power house from 1914. I’m pretty excited to write this story—ballet and old buildings, two of my favorite things! Happy Tuesday!

magnolia petals
Her hands are small; he compares them to his Orange dust coats her fingertips She’s been in the garden again, prying apart the young Magnolias waiting to blossom And he looks at her with that smile she has yet to wrap her mind around “You need to wait, little girl. Learn to wait.” She quiets her heart The Magnolias bloom in the summer And the time passes unexpectedly She...

road trippin'
Just 5 days ago I was staring at the Sydney Opera House through my camera lens, and tonight I’m sitting in my mother’s yellow reading chair in Kansas City, MO. It was quite a quick turn-around, but thanks to Miss Maggie I finally made it to the next chapter in my summer plans. The in-between road trip was refreshing for my soul, and gave my heart a chance to bask in the fellowship it...

australia photos
I’ve had a chance to tell only a few of you about my amazing trip to Australia, and I was hoping to upload some photos, but I just realized they are all sitting on a hard drive in the study abroad office. I won’t have access to them until the end of the summer. So, stay tuned!
